Quarter One Update – Pt. 2

So this post is long overdue. I teased you all on my original post about how great things are happening  for me and how my journey is proving successful and then I left you hanging! Well, I’d like to finally formally announce my new path in life. They are two-fold and complement each other while at the same time honoring all of my passions! Isn’t it amazing how everything comes together?

First, I am currently in school to become a CERTIFIED HEALTH COACH. Secondly, I  am now a CERTIFIED WELLNESS & MEDICAL TRAVEL SPECIALIST.  In the about section of my blog, I talk about how “this blog will showcase my commitment to pursuing my passions and seeing what manifests over the course of a year. The topics on my blog are what I’m most passionate about — Travel (mind), Food & Nutrition (body), and Spirituality (soul).” Let me tackle each of these passionate areas to discuss how my faith journey is manifesting exactly what I requested.

Travel – I am already a Certified Travel Agent and have been for a few years. But, with my new certification I have a niche that will complement my health coaching business. The idea behind that is to plan wellness retreats for my health coaching business, help others plan spa and wellness vacations, and work with individuals interested in taking trips for medical purposes. This last part, medical travel, is becoming very popular and with the state of our health insurance in the USA, it is becoming a viable option in order to get medical procedures done at a reasonable cost. Major companies such as Walmart, Pepsico and Lowe’s already offer it to their employees as part of their health benefit.

Food & Nutrition – Food has been a passion of mine forever. I’ve always loved GOOD food. I can go into a Whole Foods or a specialty food gourmet store and linger for hours. I’m an avid ingredient reader and make sure that the majority of the food that I purchase and consume is healthy. Becoming a health coach would allow me to help others in their quest to be healthy. The program I am going through actually teaches Integrative Nutrition meaning it’s more than just the food you eat. To be completely healthy you’ll need to also look at other aspects of your life — your career, your physical activity level, your spiritual life, your relationships — to ensure that your whole self is well. It definitely takes a holistic approach to wellness. In case you are interested in learning more for yourself, see Institute for Integrative Nutrition.

Spirituality – Even though the health coaching’s focus is on wellness, spirituality plays a role in your well being so I would be helping others with that. But, this blog has always been a platform for me to help others in a spiritual sense. I’m not talking about any religion or certain rules that you should follow. I’m talking about looking within yourself and following your intuition and being the best “you” that you can be. I’m talking about taking charge of your life and having gratitude along the way. I’m talking about attracting more of what you want and distancing yourself from what you don’t. Realize your worth and what you have to offer to this world to make it a better place.

So, as you can see it is all starting to come together. When I started this blog on May 24, 2013 I didn’t know what my next career move would be. I just knew that the direction I was going in wasn’t it. I only knew what I loved and what I was passionate about so I immersed myself in those things and started actively doing those things. I spent more time doing and less time hoping. It is so awesome how the universe aligns and works to give you exactly what you want and need once you put your mind to it and take the initiative.

I can’t wait to share what may manifest at my six month update!

ID-1005481What do you define as success? A lot of people would probably say that having a lot of money is success. I beg to differ. I would say that money is a means to an end. Money can help make your life comfortable and allow you to do more in the world. But even if you don’t have money, success can be having a loving significant other, child(ren), and a comfortable home. I am very successful in that regard and I am very grateful for it because I know there are plenty of people that don’t have it and long for it. But, I want more out of life. I want what I have and then some.

How many of you truly believe that you can manifest the life you want? I bet a lot of you believe it, but don’t really think it can happen to you. Why? Because if you truly believed it you would be doing something about it. I was that person too. I’ve always had big dreams and this life of doing everything I love, but the only problem was that my 9-5 got in the way. How am I supposed to do everything that I want to do when I have to go into a cubicle 5 days out of 7? And sometimes I even had to work after 5pm and weekends! This was not what I signed up for. I thought about how some people work for 50 years and retire and only then can they enjoy life. I’m not knocking what anybody else is doing, but that is not for me.

My successful life is owning several businesses so that I can have multiple streams of income, a home in St. Thomas, a cabin in the Smoky Mountains, being able to shop & dine  without worry of a budget, being able to travel at a whim, having the time to spend with my children whenever, a big beautiful home that has everything I need in it (cooks gourmet kitchen with a salad bar, gym, meditation/massage room, theater room, library, office, play room, etc.), and having like-minded, wealthy, successful friends. Among my businesses would be a non-profit that helps underprivileged children and allows them to travel, see the world, and expand their mind. I would also give back to my community and city and to others that need help. To whom much is given, much is required. That is my desire and that is my goal which I will attain.

How many are you with me? What do you consider success?

I am living a fearless life! One thing I am learning is that fear is not real. It is a figment of your imagination. True, it may seem real.  But, to a paranoid schizophrenic, all of those people talking to him are real. To a 3 year old who is scared of the monster under the bed, it seems real.  For the woman who is constantly complaining of being broke, and thereby is always broke, that is real for her. The point is that we shape our own realities. Would you want your reality to be full of fear or bliss? Well, I opt for bliss!

One of the You Tube channels I follow is Shameless Maya. (I love her energy and passion!) Her whole purpose is shamelessly (or fearlessly) putting herself out there to combat her insecurities. This is from her About page: What would happen if I shamelessly promoted myself for 365 days?. Go watch my first video. It came about from my insecurities of putting myself out there. I find self-promotion cheesy, corny, and tacky but I’m noticing a LOT of people promoting themselves, celebrating their gifts and here I am hiding in my turtle shell. So before I say farewell to this world, I’d like to annihilate this mental “block” and celebrate the beauty of life with my many hidden gifts and talents, meet some new like-minded people and to do that i must #BESHAMELESS. I’m excited to find out where this journey will take me.

Here is a video where she talks about fear and questions why you are afraid. What are you afraid of?

Mind Over Body – Pt. 2

I was watching the latest vlog post from Gabrielle Bernstein and the topic was dealing with negative people. I was interested to hear what she had to say as I had written a post about it on June 3. Her suggestion was to be empathetic. Engage them in conversation. The reason for the engagement is to let them be heard. Don’t try to be all preachy and tell them about how they need to look on the bright side of things or “turn that frown upside down”. That can become somewhat sarcastic. But, I think this may only work on a temporary basis. If the person is not normally a “negative Nancy” or “Debbie Downer” then perhaps this may work. If it is someone that doesn’t want to change at all, then I can’t see myself engaging them all the time.

In my post, my solution did not talk about engagement, but it also didn’t talk about being preachy. I did say to stay positive and sooner or later those negative people won’t be coming back to you for more commiseration. I do believe you can be positive and empathetic at the same time though. The next time I get approached by a negative person, I will engage them and still be positive. For example:

Negative Nancy: “Nothing ever goes right for me.

Me: “Really? That must suck.”‘

I won’t engage them by agreeing with them because that’s when you get caught up in their negative energy and fall down the rabbit hole of pessimism. However, I will listen and have compassion for what they are going through. It may be a genuine concern. But again, I’m not going to be the one they can always run to when they want to complain about the same old things.

What do you do when you see Negative Nancy or Negative Ned come your way?

Choosing Your Life

Today I started to envision all of the wonderful things I want for my life and I got really excited. It felt so real, as if I already had these things. My stomach felt jittery (which is what happens when I get excited) and I had a real grin plastered on my face. This is one of the tenents in The Law of Attraction. You must envision and believe that what you want and desire can happen. Truthfully, thinking about the things that I desire and where I envision myself in the near future is one of my favorite past-times. It’s something that keeps me motivated and makes me strive harder to get there.

This brings me to the word CHOICE. Some people feel that life is hard and decision-signyou have to fight for what you want. I’ve never believed that and as a result, I’ve never had a hard life and have never had to fight for what I want. Now, don’t get me wrong. I’ve done some struggling based on the choices I made, but I won’t say my life was hard. We all have a choice to make in how we live our lives. Sometimes we make choices that aren’t ideal because we feel like we don’t have a choice. We always have a choice. It’s just that the other option may seem harder to do or it may be less popular. I would advise that you really think about how you feel about both choices — never mind which is easier or most popular. Go with the one that your gut (or intuition) is telling you is best. This will always lead to the right choice and over time, your right choices will build up and before you know it, you’re on a different path. Baby steps.

Words Have Power!

“Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me!”

Remember that? Our mothers meant well when they told us that. It was meant to protect us from bullies or others taunting us. It was meant to let us know that even though things like sticks and stones could hurt us physically, words could not hurt us mentally. But that is so untrue. As adults, we now know the power of words and how they can be used to uplift or destroy. Words have the power to incite riots or wars or produce peace and love. We all know this. But, what really got me thinking about this was the YouTube video I received in my email.

This video is about an experiment done with RICE to show the affect our words and positive energy have. (Yes, I said rice). Now, if this happens with rice, can you imagine the effects that we have on people, and especially children? The clip is below, but here are my thoughts:

  1. We can make all the difference in a child’s life by just paying attention to them.
  2. We can make an even bigger difference in a child’s life by paying attention to them AND showering them with love and positive energy. No name calling, no chastising and no making them feel less than what they are.
  3. We can make all the difference in an adult’s life by listening to them.
  4. We can make an even bigger difference in an adult’s life by listening to them AND showing them respect and kindness. No name calling, no chastising, , and no making them feel less than what they are.

I think I’ll conduct a similar experiment in the near future and share my results with you. In the meantime, if you don’t have anything nice to say, say something nice anyway! What are your thoughts on this video?

Awesomeness Fest 2013

I received an email from Lisa Nichols of Motivating the Masses for Awesomeness Fest 2013. This event sounds exciting. There are only a limited number of tickets available and you have to fill out a brief application at which time if they deem that worthy enough you’ll get a call and then they’ll make a determination if you are a good fit. I’m not going to lie that my first thought when I got it was, “I can’t afford this. I won’t be selected because I’m not known…heck, I just got this blog up and running.” But, then I had to stop myself. This event sounds awesome. I’d be able to meet the type of people who I want to surround myself with,  I’d learn so much and I have something to bring to the table as well. These are exactly the type of people that I aspire to be like. So, when I wrote in my personal journal that I’d like to attend I was hesitant about putting it on this blog. Why? Because I was afraid that if I put it out here and I don’t get selected then I would fail at my experiment. But, that’s the whole point of this experiment! I HAVE to put it out here and follow my own rules. If I don’t get selected or not at this point is irrelevant. I am just starting out and I need to at least be consistent on putting my goals out to the world and then take the steps necessary to achieve them.
